Meet the Board Monday: Andrea Mahoney
Here's our latest edition of ‘Meet the Board Mondays’, a series to help you get to know your 2019 Board of Directors. In our fifth installation, we bring you our Secretary, Andrea Mahoney.

P: PERSON
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Andrea and I am the chapter’s Secretary. Previously, I was Director of Sponsorships, and no matter the role, I’ve found it rewarding to help the organization live its mission and vision, and increase its success in the Bay Area. Also, it’s another way for me to support my beloved Bay Area! My parents met in San Francisco, and our family traveled and lived across the U.S. while my Dad was in the Air Force, finally settling in the Bay Area at his retirement. I appreciate its rich diversity, culture, and the presence of so many people and companies building solutions for the betterment of mankind.
R: REASON
What’s the reason you joined PRSA?
I got involved in the chapter in 2012 when I was approached to volunteer for the hospitality subcommittee as co-chair at the PRSA International Conference in San Francisco. Instantly, I met so many great people and was compelled to get more actively involved. I had organized our head of Corporate Communications to be a keynote speaker and a sponsorship of a Diversity & Inclusion networking event. The conference was a great launch pad for my continuous involvement at PRSA-SF. I find it fulfilling to see people engage, contribute, and teach others about this amazing and valuable industry I’m in.
S: SPECIALTIES
What are your specialties in your professional and personal life?
Strategy, counsel and planning were areas I spent much of my billable time at PR firms, and that hasn’t changed much at my two in-house positions at Wells Fargo and currently at Easterseals Bay Area. Also, I am hands on when it comes to creating, writing and deploying content for multiple channels and platforms. Plus, I love working with reporters! Their work is admirable.
Personally, my specialty is being a wife and mom. My family means the world to me, and we have lots of fun together. I wish I could say I was a great cook because I worship good food and a good cook like my husband, but I’m more the decorator and cleaner in my household.
A: ADVICE
What advice would you give other PR pros?
It’s important to consider your values and what drives you. It’s magic when in your work you are practicing your foundational and vision values. The storytelling and creativity just comes more naturally, and that usually results in effective work and really making a difference.
