Q&A with Foggies 2022 Campaign of the Year Winner, Delta Dental of CA
We interviewed the team responsible for the winning "National Smile Month" campaign and learned more about who they are and the great work that they do!
Tell us more about your company and some details of your winning entry.
Delta Dental of California is the nation’s largest dental insurance provider, covering 41 million enrollees across our 15 states and D.C. and is also committed to expanding health care access and equity, especially in underserved communities.
In support of our company goals and in recognition of National Smile Month (May 17 - June 17), we launched a multifaceted traditional media and social media campaign in May, with the key objectives of providing oral health education, awareness and resources for families and children of all ages.
Another key objective for this campaign was to reach our Spanish-speaking audience in our enterprise area - which was a first for our company. This is an important segment for us to reach to provide oral health education as Latino children have higher rates of cavities than their POC and white peers, according to our non-profit partner, Salud America.
In addition, this campaign was focused on building executive thought leadership for our President, Chief Dental Officer and Dental Consultants who served as our spokespeople, demonstrating that they are trusted industry experts and wellness resources for current and prospective members, media, parents and general public.
Our campaign included many firsts for our organization including our first Spanish-speaking TV broadcast interview with Telemundo Bay Area, first Spanish published print article in Telemundo 62 Philadelphia, first live broadcast with Today in Alabama and PBS South Florida, first successful social media influencer activation and first Delta Dental Spotify playlists to brush your teeth to.
What does it mean to your team to take home this win? How will you celebrate?
Winning the award for Campaign of the Year is a tremendous honor for our team as we were competing amongst exceptional, top-notch communications teams throughout the Bay Area. This award recognizes our team’s hard work to successfully share and amplify our company’s core message that taking proper care of your oral health and creating healthy habits at a young age is critical to your overall health and well-being. It also demonstrates that you don’t need to be a large team to create quality campaigns with successful results. You just need a team with a lot of heart and who want to do good work for the success of the company and the communities that we serve. We really enjoy working with each other and it translates into the work we do.
Our team will celebrate with a happy hour full of good vibes, group hugs and lots of laughter.
What should the Bay Area know about your team?
Our Delta Dental Media Relations team is only about a year and a half year old. In just a short time, we have built a successful brand and reputation building arm of Delta Dental that is truly moving the needle to reinforce a positive perception of our company and that we are advocates of oral health and overall wellness. We are also a team that loves to think outside of the box and tackles and excels at things that our company has historically never done before.
