WHAT THE 2014 EDELMAN TRUST BAROMETER TELLS US ABOUT PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

At PRSA’s March Program, Ravi Moorthy, Executive Vice President, Corporate Group Head at Edelman San Francisco, will share relevant findings of the 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer, the annual trust and credibility survey that the firm has conducted over the past 13 years, and what it means for those responsible for building trust with the public. The 2013 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals a leadership crisis. Less than one in five respondents in the 2013 Edelman Trust Barometer believes a business or governmental leader will actually tell the truth when confronted with a difficult issue. Ravi will share relevant findings from the barometer and engage in a discussion of its implications with program attendees.

Most recently, Ravi was the general manager of WPP Team Dell, a communications agency dedicated to supporting Dell’s global communications team. In this role, he was responsible for leading the overall engagement with the client and for managing the activities of a team of professionals around the world.

Prior to that, Ravi was the Associate Director of Group Communications for Mubadala, the $45 billion dollar investment and development company owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi. In this role he was responsible for building and protecting the company’s brand, both domestically and internationally. This entailed overseeing the company’s activities in media relations, financial communications, employee engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Prior to his move to Abu Dhabi in 2009, Ravi was a twelve-year veteran of Edelman. While there, Ravi Moorthy developed and managed the execution of corporate reputation programs for multinational companies such as General Electric and AstraZeneca.

For General Electric, Ravi was the Deputy Global Client Relationship Manager (DGCRM). His responsibilities included ensuring a consistent level of quality and service in all markets where Edelman supports GE around the world. He also created and ran an issues management program for GE Money.

For AstraZeneca, Ravi oversaw a multi-market corporate reputation program that integrated the communications efforts of a number of different groups including R&D, Strategic Planning Business Development and Corporate Affairs.

Ravi was also the co-author of Edelman’s “master narrative” approach to corporate positioning and storytelling.

During his first tenure at Edelman, Ravi also worked with Samsung’s Strategic Planning Office, counseling the company’s senior executives on a number of issues including corporate governance, succession planning and corporate social responsibility.

Ravi’s prior clients include international companies looking to build their profile in the United States, including Siemens and Invensys. Ravi also managed a communications program for Wipro – the Indian IT services company. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing a corporate media relations and executive positioning program while also managing the broader issue of outsourcing.

Ravi has extensive knowledge of the telecommunications industry and has worked with media such as BusinessWeek, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He has written speeches for senior executives and authored bylined articles for publication in trade media. During his tenure at Edelman, Ravi worked with Global Crossing, MCI WorldCom, Ericsson, Siemens and SkyBridge L.P., the $4.8 billion satellite constellation project led by Alcatel.
