    The Learning Policy Institute (LPI) is seeking an individual to join its communications team, providing support to the research and policy staff at LPI. The ideal candidate enjoys working as part of a team and has a strong commitment to ensuring that all children receive a high-quality education, excellent writing skills, previous experience in communications (either with a nonprofit or a public relations or similar firm), ability to manage multiple projects, and is flexible and highly organized.


    LPI conducts and communicates independent, high-quality research to improve education policy and practice. Working with policymakers, researchers, educators, community groups, and others, LPI seeks to advance evidence-based policies that support empowering and equitable learning for each and every child. Nonprofit and nonpartisan, LPI connects policymakers and stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels with the evidence, ideas, and actions needed to strengthen the education system from preschool through college and career readiness

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Drafting select communications documents, including media advisories, e-blasts, website text and more.


    • Assisting with media outreach, through regular media monitoring and scans to identify potential newshooks, trends, emerging opposition.


    • Providing social media and basic website support, including assisting with live tweeting, twitter chats, and Facebook live events, and website posting.


    • Assisting with web posting, analytics, and curating non-LPI research on the website.


    • Proofreading LPI web content and materials.


    • Managing a story database.


    • Creating one- and two-page backgrounders on reports and briefs.


    • Assisting with organizing webinars.


    • Helping build and maintain LPI’s media and e-outreach lists.


    • Other tasks, as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Experience:

    • 2 – 4 years’ experience in public relations, media relations or related field

  • Skills:

    • Interest in education policy and/or research
    • Exceptional attention to detail in work quality
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Web and social media experience

  • Computer Skills:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
    • Web and social media experience
    • Basic HTML; experience with Drupal or Content Management Systems
    • Data entry
    • Database or mailing list management (e.g. Microsoft Access)
    • Basic Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator skills
    • Familiarity with Google Analytics
    • Experience with MailChimp

  • Education Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
