    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
    The Development and Community Relations department is charged with presenting the agency in a positive manner to donors, outside organizations, the media and the community. The department manages all development and marketing materials, social media interactions, public and media relations, and the agency website and newsletters. The department also leads agency event planning with the support of staff committees and collaborates closely with the Executive Director in support of fundraising efforts.

    SCOPE OF WORK:
    The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Development and Community Relations and is responsible for media communications and outreach, including writing press releases and feature stories; writing articles for internal and external newsletters, e-blast and blog posts; and taking photos and producing short videos. The position also administers all social media posts and digital communications. The position participates in outreach activities, including resource fairs and attendance at community and civic meetings. Additionally, the Specialist assists with all fundraising events.

    This position requires proficiency in public relations, writing/editing/proofing skills, social media, and is comfortable with community outreach. The Specialist also has to be creative, curious and outgoing and a team player.
    This is position is full-time 40 hours per week and is currently partially in office, partially remote. May require working evenings or weekends and some travel for presentations and meetings.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum 2-4 years’ communications experience.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Proficient with social media.
    • Strong relationships with media contacts.
    • Strong interviewing, writing, editing, and proofing skills.
    • Strong verbal and communications skills.
    • Ability to work with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competency and
    community awareness.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
    • College degree or commensurate work experience.
    • Keyboarding/data entry skills.
    • Ability to lift 15 pounds.
    • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
    • Valid CA Driver’s License, proof of car insurance and reliable transportation.
    • A smart phone.
    • Background check clearance.
